Our solutions to your winter wedding worries

Are you considering a winter wedding? Winter is a magical time to get married here at Venachar Lochside in Scotland. From beautiful wintry scenes around the lochside, to our warm and welcoming indoor venue with romantic lighting. We also offer a special winter wedding package, which includes everything you need for a spectacular day. However, we know from talking to our wedding clients that they sometimes have winter worries. Here, we’re sharing some of the most common questions and concerns and how we’re able to answer them. Helping you to move forward with your winter wedding plans.

What will the venue look like in winter?

If you first come to visit our venue over the summer, you might be wondering how it will look in the winter. Rest assured, our peaceful setting on the shores of Loch Venachar looks just as beautiful in the colder months. Perhaps even more beautiful! Whether covered in a blanket of snow, dusted with sparkly frost, or sunlit on a crisp, clear day, the scenery here is spectacular. We offer venue styling options in our package extras that are perfect for winter weddings. For example, locally foraged greenery for gorgeous seasonal decor, and our outdoor firepits with sparklers, tiki torches and smores station.

What if it rains or snows?

Wintertime can actually have more consistent weather patterns, and we should have a good idea of the forecast in the days before the wedding. We can plan for all weathers, and we have plenty of indoor space if you feel it’s too wet to go out. We have large windows, which let the spectacular views in, and plenty of natural light for photographs. Besides, you can’t get more romantic than a winter wonderland for your wedding backdrop. Picture a glistening loch, frost-bitten trees and snow-capped mountains. Also, you can get some amazing photographs in the falling rain and snow, just have your umbrellas at the ready.

Will my guests be cold?

It’s warm and cosy inside our venue, and we can create lovely inviting indoor spaces using rugs, soft fairy lights and greenery. We can provide patio heater hire and blankets for outside “to have and to hold in case you get cold”. We also have options for hiring a heated marquee on the lawn.

What about winter accessibility and transport?

We work with many local transport companies who we can rely on, whatever the weather. And once you’re all here, the whole day takes place in one venue. So there’s no worrying about arranging transport from the ceremony to the after-celebrations.

Will it get dark too early?

In our part of Scotland, the earliest sunset is at 3.40 pm in December and stretches to 5.45 pm by the end of February. So on the shortest days of the year, we would recommend holding your ceremony no later than 1 pm, to make the most of the daylight. Then as the sun sets, the party gets going. The darker evenings just add to the cosy, romantic atmosphere. Make more of beautiful twinkling fairy lights, snuggle by the fire pit with smores, and enjoy winter street food stalls and warming drinks like hot chocolate and mulled wine. The loch is absolutely magical in winter. You could even set up your own light show on the shore with fireworks and projections on the water!

Will my wedding clash with festive events?

Getting married in the run-up to Christmas is wonderful because you can enjoy all the festive decor and theming. Everyone is in good spirits and there is a real party atmosphere. However, there is the risk that people will have already made plans, so we would suggest giving your guests plenty of notice. Or you may choose to wait until after New Year, when things are generally quieter. The choice is yours!
