We invite film crews to hire Venachar Lochside as a base for their film shoot. In addition to our nearby beautiful natural surroundings including 10km of lochside coastline, we are surrounded by dramatic mountains on the horizon. Hiring our venue as a filming base gives you headquarters within easy reach of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, as well as the cities of Stirling, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Easily accessible from the major Scottish airports, we have plenty of space for your crew within the building and can offer catering services to keep everyone fed and watered. We have plenty of car parking as well as male and female toilets. There is a private jetty, beach and beautiful, lawned garden area. Perfect for launching boats or filming on the water’s edge. And when you’ve finished filming, we have a licenced bar available for the after-party!

Scenic beauty fit for the big screen

We are lucky to be in such a beautiful part of such a beautiful country and we are very proud of its cinematic history so far. Moreover, it’s not just TV series directors who fall in love with the area, but film directors too. So, it’s no wonder that the area has been host to epic TV series like Outlander and Game of Thrones as well as blockbuster movies such as Outlaw King.

Outlander highlights plenty of locations throughout Scotland. Doune Castle features as Castle Leoch. And Deanston Distillery provided the setting for the wine warehouse belonging to Jamie’s cousin. In the Game of Thrones pilot episode, Doune Castle is featured as Winterfell. Cinematic history

Loch Venachar has been used on various occasions as a filming location, cementing its place in movie history.

Swallows and Amazons

This 2016 film featured a range of talent including Kelly Macdonald, Andrew Scott, Rafe Spall and Harry Enfield. Based on the bestselling book by Arthur Ransome, Swallows and Amazons tells the tale of two sets of children who come across a mysterious stranger whilst out on their boats. Parts of the film were shot around Loch Venachar.

The Legend of Barney Thomson

This movie was directed by and starred Robert Carlyle alongside Ray Winstone and Emma Thompson. Centering around the eponymous character, this dark comedy details a world of crime and serial killers. Although filmed mainly in and around Glasgow, parts of The Legend of Barney Thomson were filmed around Loch Venachar.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Some of the funniest movie scenes ever shot were filmed at the nearby Doune Castle. In fact, it was inside this castle that the French informed King Arthur his father smelled of elderberries, and it is where the Knights of the Round Table did their infamous song and dance.
