Wedding venue open days

Wedding venue open days are a big part of the planning process. In fact, attending an open day at your wedding venue is as essential as, make-up trials, trying on your wedding dress and cake-tasting sessions. It’s kind of like trying on your venue to make sure it’s the perfect fit.

Why wedding venue open days are important

The venue you like may have beautiful photos on their website. And you may have had lovely long conversations with the owners on the phone. But, the best way to test out a wedding venue is by attending an open day. There is no substitute for a good old nosey around. Here at Venachar Lochside in Scotland, we think open days are so important that we hold them regularly. Check here for our latest events.

So, with all that in mind, we have listed some good reasons to attend a wedding open day at the venues you like the look of. Read on to find out more…

A chance to ask questions

The reason most wedding venues have an open day is to show off their venue at its best. Ultimately, they want you to fall in love with their venue. So, with that in mind, the owners or managers will clear their diary for the day to make sure they are on hand to answer any questions you may have. Before you attend, make a list of the questions you would like to have answered. Here’s a list of some to get you started:

  • Do we get exclusive use of the venue?
  • Where are the best places for photos?
  • Can you help us arrange for a registrar/celebrant etc?
  • Are you licenced for civil ceremonies?
  • What are the room capacities?
  • What is the minimum/maximum number of guests?
  • Do you have any restrictions on decor?
  • Do you have any recommendations for accommodation?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • Do you have a list of preferred suppliers?

You’re very likely to have more, or other questions. And you’re likely to think of more when you see the venue on the open day. So take a pad and a pen with you to jot any more down. Make sure you take note of things like parking and ask if you can change things you’re not keen on.

Couple making plans

First impressions

A wedding open day gives you the opportunity to see how the venue might look on your special day. Even if you have fallen in love with the photos you have seen on the website, seeing it in the flesh is better. The most wonderful venues can look even more wonderful when you see them in real life. On the flip side, we’ve all heard of favourable photography. When you visit, you can make sure the venue is everything they promise it will be.

You’ll get a better feel for the space too, how you would want to decorate it and how your guests will fit into it. Atmosphere is also important in a wedding venue. It sets the tone for your day and can make or break it. You can’t get an idea of that through a photo.

When you’re planning a wedding, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with all of the decisions and choices you have to make. By visiting a wedding venue open day, you can meet the team and see what’s possible for your day.

Samples and suppliers

Some wedding venue open days supply tasters of the food and drink they have on their menus. So it’s a good opportunity to taste the quality of food and drink that will be served at your wedding. It might even help you choose which menus to go with if you are having problems deciding.

Some of the venue’s preferred suppliers might be invited to the wedding open day too. That gives you the chance to speak to them, see what they have to offer, and decide if they are the right suppliers for your day. Check with the venue beforehand if suppliers will be there so you can make sure you have a list of questions to ask them.

Happy days

Wedding venue open days are fun! You get to meet the staff at the venue and talk to them about your special day. Planning a wedding is a happy and fun time. What better way to spend a day than seeing the venue you have your heart set on all dressed up and ready to go? Seeing the venue ready for a wedding could give you décor ideas for your day.

You will meet other couples getting married too. Maybe you could swap ideas and helpful suggestions? They might have found the perfect supplier for something and share their details with you.
